  Eurorack Prototyping PCBs

The Synovatron range of Eurorack compatible prototyping PCBs includes the Proto series and the DIY series.

The newer Proto series of PCBs includes ProtoPotz, ProtoJax and ProtoXp.

Here's a link to a blog post about a project using the Proto boards in some custom Buchla modules.

The older DIY series of PCBs includes DIY2 and DIY3.

Follow this link to the Eurororack DIY Prototyping Cards Rethink post for full details of both series of PCBs.

4HPJ and 4HPP Front Panels

These panels have a limited stock status and will not be reordered once they've gone but for now they are available and are ideal for DIY2, DIY3 and ProtoJax PCBs.

Both panel types are 4HP (20mm) wide, 1.9mm thick, anodised brushed aluminium and have 5 holes for front panel components such as jacks, LEDs and switches.

4HPP holes are 3mm diameter and 4HPJ holes are 8.2mm diameter. The 3mm holes are fine for small LEDs or can be drilled out to suit other components. The 8.2mm holes are perfect for the Cliff CL1384 3.5mm jack sockets used on the prototyping PCBs.

Jacks DIY Kit/Module

This is a 4HP passive adaptor module; it provides adaptation between 3.5mm jacks and 1/4" (6.35mm) jacks. It has two mono channels and one stereo channel. The stereo channel include stereo 3.5mm and 1/4" jacks which are connected to two 3.5mm mono jacks: this can be used to break out left and right signals or used as third mono channel or used as an effects send/return channel or used to access low and high signals from a TRS (Tip, Ring, Shield) connection.

Module width: 4HP
Module depth: 27mm
Current drain: 0mA (passive)

The DIY kit comprises the front panel, two circuit boards, three 1/4" jacks, a stereo 3.5mm jack, four 3.5mm mono jacks, a header plug and socket to join both circuit boards and a fixing kit comprising two M3 screws and washers.

Euro Bananas DIY Kit/Module

This is a 6HP passive adaptor module; it provides adaptation between 3.5mm jacks and 4mm banana sockets. It has six channels and a ground connection (which is required when connecting eurorack to banana based synths to maintain a common voltage reference).

Module width: 6HP
Module depth: 12mm
Current drain: 0mA (passive)

The DIY kit comprises the front panel, a circuit board, seven banana sockets, six 3.5mm mono jacks and a fixing kit comprising two M3 screws and washers.

Trunks & Mults DIY Kit/Module

This is a 6HP passive module that provides eigth trunk line channels and two 4-way multiples. The eight trunk line sockets on the front connect to eight sockets at the rear of the module which can be connected either to outboard equipment (mixers, effects, DAW etc.) or to another Trunks & Mults module in the same synth or an adjacent synth.

Why would you need Trunks & Mults?

Trunk lines are useful if you have a large (wide or tall) synth where very long patch leads are required to patch a module on one side to a module that is on the other side. The long patch cables clutter the front of the synth and may even stress the contacts. Using two of these modules it is possible to connect from any point to any other point on a large synth using shorter patch leads which reduces clutter. As the rear connectors are 3.5mm jack sockets they maintain signal integrity if you use good quality screened patch leads internally; this will help prevent crosstalk and interference, probably more noticeable on audio signals rather than CVs or gates.

There are two 4-channel multiples that are normalled together (Multiple 1 connects to the switched contact of the top jack in Multiple 2) which offers a 1 in 6 out arrangement or two 1 in 3 out arrangements.

Module width: 6HP
Module depth: 27mm, about 55mm with rear mounted patch cables
Current drain: 0mA (passive)

The DIY kit comprises the front panel, a circuit board, twenty four 3.5mm mono jacks and a fixing kit comprising two M3 screws and washers.
